How Do WhatsApp Channels Work?
WhatsApp Channels is designed to be a simple, reliable, and private way to receive important updates. It introduces a new tab called “Updates”, where you can find Status and the channels you choose to follow, all neatly separated from your regular chats with family, friends, and communities.
One of the features of WhatsApp Channels is the option to create your own channel. This channel lets you share updates and directly connect with your followers through WhatsApp. In case you don’t have a WhatsApp account yet, here’s a guide on how to get one.
WhatsApp Channels can be accessed using either the WhatsApp application or the dedicated WhatsApp Business app as a tool to engage your audience effectively.
What sets this feature apart is its added layer of security. You have the ability to enable two-step verification for both your channel account and any admin accounts to ensure that unauthorized access is prevented and your channel remains fully protected.
The Features of WhatsApp Channels
Channels serve as a tool for admins to broadcast information to their audience. They can send different types of content, like text, photos, videos, stickers and polls.
To help you discover and follow channels that you like, WhatsApp Channels provides a searchable directory where you can find updates related to your hobbies, sports teams, local officials, and much more. You can also join channels through invite links shared in chats, emails, or online posts.
WhatsApp Channels also consider user’s privacy by ensuring that personal information remains protected. Certain information like phone numbers and profile photos of channel admins and followers are not exposed to one another. Also, information about who you follow remains private.
WhatsApp Channels are not end-to-end encrypted by default so as to reach a broad audience. This ensures that important updates can be shared with a wide range of users.
How Can I Get WhatsApp Channels?
WhatsApp Channels is currently not available to all users. The roll-out started in Colombia and Singapore, and users in these regions are expected to receive the update in the coming days.
However, in the coming months, the update will get to everyone, and you will be able to create your own channel if you do not receive the initial roll-out.
