Why can’t I connect to Instagram?
If you can’t connect to Instagram, you face a problem or two. It could be that the Instagram server is down, your internet connection is not active or both.
However, it only occurs temporarily and is not very common. It would vanish with time. It once happened towards the end of 2015 as a temporary login issue for Instagram users and has also been experienced frequently over the years.
If you have a good internet connection and the Instagram server is working fine, it is probably because of a glitch. Interestingly, there are some methods you can apply to fix the issue.
How to fix “We couldn’t connect to Instagram” error
One method you can use to fix the “We couldn’t connect to Instagram” error is connecting to Instagram with a different network or a VPN server. This is because your IP address could have mistakenly been temporarily disabled on Instagram.
Other methods include updating and reinstalling the Instagram app.
We have considered all the methods below:
Try a VPN service
If your IP address is mistakenly banned on Instagram, you can either wait till the ban is lifted or connect from a VPN.
There is a vast majority of VPN services you can consider, although you do not need a premium VPN service to solve the issue. Download and Install Touch VPN from the Chrome Web Store. You can also check out my recent article for the best VPN ideas.
After installation, connect to the VPN and visit Instagram. This time, you should be able to access the Instagram website without any connection issues.
Change your internet source
Connection issues could result from poor internet sources or blocked IP addresses. Instead of using a VPN, you can also change your internet connection.
If you are on a mobile network, I advise changing to Wi-Fi and vice-versa. You may also try a different Wi-Fi or mobile network and see if the problem persists.
Each time you try a new network, ensure you force close the Instagram app before re-accessing your account.
Wait for Instagram
Sometimes, the “We couldn’t connect to Instagram” error could be because Instagram is down. Hence, there is a need to let their engineers fix things up.
You can confirm if the Instagram server is down from the Downdetector website.
Alternatively, you can visit Twitter or Reddit and search for similar topics. If someone, at least, is talking about it, then you are not alone.
In this case, it is best to wait it out.
Conclusion
Connection issues on Instagram are not new to many. It has happened repeatedly and got fixed each time.
This implied that the issue might not be from your device. It can be Instagram itself experiencing downtime. Ensure you keep your mobile app up-to-date to get the fixed update.
Instagram’s Help Center also recommends that you restart your mobile device, check your internet connection and reinstall the Instagram app.
If you notice any bug while using the app, you can report it under the “Report a problem” option within the app.
