If you lose your internet connection in the middle of a transaction, you can dial an Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) code to complete your transaction.
By dialling *99#, you will be able to request and send money, change your UPI PIN and check your account balance. Interestingly, USSD services do not require an active internet connection.
Using *99#, you can access all banking services across the country without the Internet. The service supports 83 different banks and three telecom providers. You can use it in 13 languages, including English and Hindi.
Below, we have explained how to make offline UPI payments.
How to Make UPI Payments Without an Internet
- Get your mobile device and open your dialler.
- Next, dial *99# on your device from the phone number linked to your bank account.
- On the next screen, you have to select your preferred language. Afterwards, you will be all bank accounts already linked to your number.
- Select your preferred bank by entering the corresponding option.
- On the next screen, you are to enter the last six digits of your debit card with the expiry date. If entered correctly, the process is validated, and you can supply the rest of the information needed to send a payment.
Following the on-screen instructions, you will be able to make UPI payments without the Internet.
How to Make offline UPI payments
- Dial *99# from your device and reply with “1” to send money.
- Next, choose the bank account you want to send from and enter the UPI ID or phone number or the bank account number of your intended recipient. The recipient is the person you are sending money to.
- Continue by entering the amount, and your UPI PIN and the payment will be sent.
Please, note that using the *99# service attracts a service of Rs. 0.50 on every transaction. Besides, you cannot send money above Rs. 5,000 on each transaction.
