Follow these steps to delete your Instagram account using your phone:
- Open the Instagram app on your Android or iOS device.
- Go to your Account Profile by tapping the Hamburger menu (three lines).
- Select Account Centre, then tap Personal Details.
- Tap Account Ownership and Control, then choose Deactivation or Deletion.
- Select the account you want to delete, then tap Delete account and hit Continue.
- Choose the reason for deleting your account, enter your Instagram password, and follow the prompts to delete your account permanently.
How to Delete Your Instagram Account on a PC or Laptop
You can also delete your Instagram account from your computer. There are two methods for doing this:
Method 1:
- Sign in to your Instagram account on any web browser.
- Go to the Delete Your Account page by visiting this link: Instagram Account Deletion.
- Choose the reason for deleting your account, re-enter your password, and click Delete.
Method 2:
- Open Instagram on your web browser.
- Click on the Hamburger menu at the bottom and go to Accounts Centre.
- Go to Personal Details, then tap Account Ownership and Control > Deactivation or Deletion.
- Select the account you wish to delete, tap Delete account, enter your password, and follow the instructions to delete your account.
How to Deactivate Your Instagram Account
If you need a break but don’t want to delete your account permanently, you can deactivate it. This will hide your account temporarily, and you can reactivate it anytime by logging back in. Follow the steps below to deactivate your account.
Deactivate Instagram Account on Mobile (Android or iOS)
- Open the Instagram app on your phone.
- Tap the Hamburger menu (three lines) and select Account Centre.
- Go to Personal Details > Ownership and Control.
- Tap Deactivation or Deletion.
- Choose the profile you want to deactivate and tap Deactivate account.
- Enter your password and follow the on-screen instructions.
Deactivate Instagram Account on PC or Laptop
- Open the Instagram website in your browser.
- Select the Hamburger menu, then click on Accounts Centre.
- Go to Personal Details > Account Ownership and Control > Deactivation or Deletion.
- Select the account you want to deactivate, enter your password, and confirm deactivation.
How to Reactivate Your Instagram Account
If you deactivate your Instagram account, you can easily reactivate it by logging in again. Simply open the Instagram app, enter your username and password, and your account will be restored.
However, if you delete your account, you have 30 days to change your mind. Within this period, you can log back in to reactivate your account. After 30 days, your account will be permanently deleted, and you won’t be able to recover it.
