There are two major ways through which the parental control setup can be done on Android devices. The easiest way is to enable the feature right from the Google Play app. Other ways include setting up a new user account for the device or by installing a third-party app.

Google Play

Parental control settings for Android devices can be enabled right from the Google Play app. By enabling the option, apps will be restricted based on your personal settings when your children are in charge.

Setting Up Parental Control on Google Play

  1. Launch the Google Play app on your device and select the hamburger icon located at the top left corner of the screen.
  2. Tap Settings, and then Parental Controls. Then tap to toggle on and enable the feature.
  3. You will be requested to create a 4-digit PIN which will be used to control the parental settings henceforth.
  4. After, tap Apps and Games and select your child’s age group. Presently, there are up to 5 age groups available to choose from.

Henceforth, apps not suitable for children within the age group selected will not be made available when your child is in control of your Android device.

Using a Third-Party App

There are a good number of app that can help you handle parental control issues on your Android devices. The popular in this category are Kids Place, Kids Zone and ESET Parental Control app.

I have not really tried out any yet so I won’t be able to recommend one specifically. You can give one of them a try and enjoy more privacy while sharing your device with the kids.
