In a while, we have discussed the best manage saved passwords on Google Chrome. However, in this post, we have discussed different ways on how to manage Google Chrome extensions.

What are Browser Extensions, and How are they used?
A browser extension is a small software module for customizing a web browser. Browsers generally allow various extensions, including user interface modifications, ad blocking, and cookie management.
Now let’s turn our attention to Google Chrome Extensions. It is beyond doubt that Google Chrome is one of the best web browsers to access the web. One of those things that makes it top the list of best web browsers is its variety of extensions.
Google Chrome Extensions are a great tool as it improves your productivity by assisting you in your daily tasks while using the browser. But if perhaps you don’t know how to manage these extensions, things might go a bit off.
If you have been looking for how to manage, disable, or remove extensions from the Chrome browser, then you’ve got yourself on the right page.
How to Manage Google Chrome Extensions
After deciding to choose and download Google Chrome as your preferred web browser, you will see a lot of extensions beside the address bar on launching. Any Chrome add-ons that you might have installed will appear as icons, but they are not the only ones. (You will see them at the top right on the screen).
Although the browser cannot display all add-ons icons on the top right of the screen, you can look at all the Chrome extensions you have installed. To do this:
- Click on Settings
- Move down to More Tools
- Select Extensions
Another way you can manage Chrome extensions is to right-click on any extension icon and select Manage Extensions from the dropdown menu. Doing this enables you to view all your extensions and install Chrome apps.
If you feel like the two methods mentioned above are somewhat uneasy, you can visit the chrome://extensions/, to go directly to the page where you can see and manage all your Chrome extensions.
Now let’s take a look at how you can manage Chrome extensions. The first way you can manage your Chrome extensions that I will be explaining in this post will be how to enable or disable Chrome extensions.
How to Enable/Disable Chrome Extensions
By following any of the above methods I mentioned above, you will see a list of all the add-ons installed on the Chrome browser. You will also find a toggle button beside each extension.
To enable or disable any Chrome extension, all you have to do is turn it on or off.
Let’s take a look at another way you can manage your Chrome extensions.
How to Remove a Chrome Extension
It is of shared experience that not all Chrome extensions installed yield expected results. I have tried a couple of add-ons myself that I eventually had to uninstall later.
In such cases, I think the best thing to do is to disable such extensions. But here comes the problem. How do I uninstall a Chrome extension?
To uninstall/disable a Chrome extension, it’s pretty easy, and all you need to do is follow the instructions I have laid out carefully.
- Right-click on the extension icon from the toolbar and select Remove from Chrome
Simple, isn’t it? Well, that’s all to it.
However, if you cannot find the extension icon on the toolbar, all you need to do is to head towards the Chrome options menu and follow the instructions below:
- Click on More Tools
- Select Extensions
- Click the Remove option on the extension you want to delete
- Select Remove again on the confirmation pop-up to delete the Chrome extension permanently
Next, we’ll talk about how you can add a Chrome extension to your browser.
How to Add a Chrome Extension
If you want to add an extension to Chrome, thanks to the Chrome Web Store!! The Chrome Web Store hosts all extensions for the browser. All you need to do is to browse these extensions by category or just search for a specific one if you have one in mind. Once you can select one, click on the Add to Chrome button placed on the extension page, and you are done adding the extension to Chrome. But wait, is that all?
Well, that is not the end of the story. After the above procedure, the button changes to “Checking” mode, and you’ll see a pop-up to grant permissions. Finally, you’ll have to give those permissions by clicking “Add Extension” to use the extension. Doing this will install the extension on your browser.
How to Check Chrome Extension Settings
If you wish to check the permissions granted to any Chrome extension, you can do that by simply typing chrome://extensions in the address bar and hitting enter. You can then check the permissions granted to any Chrome Extension on the page by clicking the details button below any extension name. On this page, you can review the settings and permissions granted to any Chrome add-on and remove the ones you are not interested in any longer.
Another important Chrome extension setting that is worthwhile to consider in this section is “Site Access.” You can choose whether you want to allow an extension to read and change all your data on a particular website you visit.
Here is another important Chrome extension that you need to consider – “Allow in Incognito.” It would be best to make sure that this option is disabled because enabling it will allow your Chrome extensions to record your browsing history in incognito mode.
How to Hide Chrome Extensions from the Menu Bar
Suppose you are the kind of person that doesn’t like things getting cluttered. You can decide to hide the Chrome extensions icon placed on the toolbar from the menu if they look cluttered. To hide Chrome extensions from the menu, right-click on the icon and select Hide in Chrome menu. Doing this will remove the selected extension from the toolbar without disabling it.
If you need to access the hidden extensions in Chrome, visit the chrome://extensions/ page, and that’s it!!
Finally, let’s take a look at another way you can manage your Chrome extensions.
How to Setup Keyboard Shortcuts for Chrome Extensions
As I said earlier, Google Chrome extensions are great tools for productivity, and you might end up using them many times a day. But it is advisable to set up keyboard shortcuts for these extensions rather than clicking on them every time. To save yourself some clicks, I have decided to include this section of this article that will enable you to set up keyboard shortcuts for Chrome extensions.
To know how you can do this, follow the instructions below:
- Select the Menu option > More Tools > Extensions
- Click the hamburger button on the top left screen
- Select Keyboard Shortcuts
All you need to do is select the keyboard shortcut at your convenience, and it gets activated.
